When I was a kid, cake was a special treat.
Every year on my birthday, my mom would pull out her cookbook, get out the special pans, check the fridge for butter and eggs, walk out the back door, get in her car, go to the store and buy me a birthday cake.
It was an annual family tradition!
Now, cake is everywhere, everyday. There’s a cupcake store on every corner. Half the flavors sound like street names for drugs. Yeah, I’m talking to you, “Red Velvet.”
And what’s up with those teeny little cupcakes? I can only assume these are cupcake appetizers to eat while you’re deciding on your cupcake main course.
