An accidental comedian
I fell into stand-up comedy by accident and stuck with it on purpose. After winning a comedy class at a charity auction, I spent six weeks studying with Bobbie Oliver and then made my debut at The Ice House.
In 2008, Scott Shimamoto and I founded The Joke Gym, one of the most popular comedy open mics in Los Angeles. More recently, I’ve taken up improv—which is feels like the exact opposite of stand-up—at The Improv Trick. I’m learning from one of the greats: Bill Chott.
I’m also an alumnus of Steve Kaplan’s Comedy Intensive, an information-packed two-day workshop that was worth every penny!
It turns out that comedy is the only sport I can play and it’s a lot less stressful than dodge ball.
